CDF Member Lynn Schenk’s Legacy Bequest to Establish the C. Hugh Friedman and Lynn Schenk Dare to Fail Endowment Fund at UC San Diego

The campus announced a generous bequest from the Honorable Lynn A. Schenk. As the first woman to represent San Diego in the U.S. House of Representatives, Schenk has broken boundaries throughout her career, helping to make San Diego—and UC San Diego—what it is today. In the same spirit, Schenk made a legacy bequest to the campus to establish the C. Hugh Friedman and Lynn Schenk Dare to Fail Endowment Fund at UC San Diego.

Corporate directors focusing on cybersecurity: Data breaches, rising costs brings cybersafeguards into the spotlight

As high profile data breaches continue to grab headlines, corporate boards need to make sure they’re deeply involved in the cybersafeguards at their companies.

"They have to accept responsibility," said David Finn, a former federal prosecutor who spent 16 years leading Microsoft’s efforts to fight cybercrime, counterfeiting and fraud. "It’s not just a server room issue. It’s a board room issue."

A group of national cybersecurity experts will discuss cyberthreats next week at the Corporate Directors Forum at Qualcomm’s headquarters at 5775 Morehouse Drive. The San Diego non-profit helps corporate board members with training and networking.

Corporate Directors Forum Appoints 3 New Board Members

The Corporate Directors Forum, a San Diego nonprofit providing corporate governance education, has appointed Jim Edwards, Justin Bird and Phil Rudolph, three corporate lawyers and governance experts, to its board of directors, the organization announced.

Edwards is senior vice president, general counsel and secretary of Cubic Corp. He helped establish and served as president of the San Diego Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel; he also served on the association’s national board. Edwards graduated from the University of San Diego School of Law, according to CDF.

Bird directs Sempra Energy’s ethics and compliance programs worldwide as vice president of Compliance and Governance and corporate secretary. Bird’s previous roles at Sempra include being director of project finance, as well as company, senior and principal counsel. Bird holds a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
