Matt Abernethy

Matthew C. Abernethy was appointed Chief Financial Officer for Neurocrine Biosciences in November 2017 and is responsible for leading corporate finance activities and commercial supply chain operations, as well as information technology and investor relations functions. Mr. Abernethy has over 15 years of experience in the financial sector and investor relations, with expertise in the healthcare industry.

He joined Neurocrine Biosciences from Zimmer Biomet, where he held various positions from February 2009 to November 2017, including most recently, Vice President, Investor Relations and Treasurer and Vice President of Finance for the Americas and Global Product Engines. He began his career with KPMG LLP and is a certified public accountant. Mr. Abernethy earned his B.S. in Accounting and Business Administration from Grace College and an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago.

T.D. Rolf

As a former practicing corporate attorney, T.D. Rolf has spent his entire career counseling private and public companies in all aspects of their business. With that experience, T.D. brings a higher level of expertise to his clients’ real estate requirements and a better understanding of their financial and operational business drivers in order to deliver the most efficient, flexible and cost-effective real estate solutions.

Prior to forming Re:Align, T.D. managed the San Diego office of Studley (now Savills), the largest commercial tenant advisory firm in the world. T.D. began his real estate career exclusively representing corporate tenants at Cushman & Wakefield, one of the largest global commercial real estate firms. Before Cushman & Wakefield, T.D., a California licensed attorney, was a member of the corporate law practice group at the law firm Gray Cary (now DLA Piper). While at Gray Cary, he represented technology companies in venture capital financings, initial public offerings and mergers and acquisitions. T.D. then joined Saint Ventures and Advisors, a venture capital firm in San Francisco. T.D. also served as Associate General Counsel at Isis Pharmaceuticals (now Ionis), a public biotechnology company.

Purposefully small and nimble, Re:Align’s commercial real estate boutique is owned and run by its principals. Its priority is to get better and more favorable deals for commercial real estate tenants in the life science, technology and professional services sectors. Re:Align’s clients include Nike, Ligand, Oric, Neurelis, Kate Tx, Longboard Pharma, Tandem Diabetes, Mainstay Medical, DLA Piper, Mintz Levin and SHARP, among others.

T.D. received his J.D. from the UCLA School of Law and his B.A. in history from Duke University, where he was a starter on the Blue Devil soccer team that competed in the 1992 NCAA Division I Final Four.

T.D. serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Big Brothers Big Sisters San Diego and enjoys coaching his kids’ sports teams.

Daniel J. Ryan

Daniel J. Ryan is Co-Chief Investment Officer and Regional Market Director of San Diego at Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc. In these roles, Mr. Ryan focuses on the company’s strategic growth and leads its San Diego asset base and operations. He has been the Regional Market Director of San Diego in capacities of increasing responsibility since June 2010, when Alexandria acquired certain assets of Mr. Ryan’s company, Veralliance Properties, Inc. With over 30 years of commercial real estate experience and almost two decades of life science real estate experience, Mr. Ryan is known as an industry veteran and a creative and forward thinker.

During his tenure at Alexandria, Mr. Ryan has led the growth and transformation of the San Diego region to approximately 8.5 million RSF of state-of-the-art office and laboratory campuses. In addition to leading the San Diego region, Mr. Ryan has been involved with developments, redevelopments, joint ventures, financing, leasing, and other strategic opportunities across the company’s North American asset base, including Seattle, the San Francisco Bay Area, Greater Boston, New York City, Maryland, and Research Triangle.

Prior to joining the company, Mr. Ryan was Chief Executive Officer of Veralliance, a commercial real estate development company, which he founded in 2002. Veralliance owned, managed, developed, and leased an approximately $1 billion portfolio primarily consisting of life science assets in the greater San Diego region. Veralliance had significant institutional equity partners, including a REIT, Prudential Real Estate Investors, and UBS. Prior to 2002, Mr. Ryan worked in the commercial real estate industry in Southern California. He was a founding principal of Pacific Management Services, Inc., a commercial developer focused on value-added transactions in the greater San Diego area, including life science, office, industrial, and multifamily transactions.

Mr. Ryan is a board member of Biocom California, a Southern California trade organization; the San Diego Economic Development Corporation, a not-for-profit regional body comprising business, government, and civic leaders committed to maximizing economic growth; Curebound, a San Diego-based 501c3 philanthropic organization that raises and invests strategic funding in translational cancer research projects aimed at accelerating new discoveries to clinical application; and the Policy Advisory Board of the University of San Diego – School of Real Estate. He is also a member of the NAIOP and the Urban Land Institute, both public policy organizations focused on public advocacy of the built environment.

Mr. Ryan received his Bachelor of Science degree in Economics, cum laude, from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and was admitted to Omicron Delta Epsilon, the honor society for excellence in achievement in the study of economics.
