The Director of the Year Award was created to recognize directors for outstanding performance in the boardroom and behind the scenes. Nominees may be from any industry and must be a resident of the San Diego area or serve on a board of a company located in San Diego. Awards are based on the director’s recent achievements, except for the Lifetime Achievement awards. Each nominee should historically exhibit exceptional character traits.
Awarded to the director who has been a leader in guiding the board and executive management in growing the company and maintaining high standards and ethics of the board.
Awarded to the director who has intentionally contributed to growing a more inclusive and diverse board culture.
Awarded to the director who has contributed to taking the company through significant changes (i.e., early start-up, mergers, acquisitions, management changes, etc.) with a positive and productive conclusion.
Awarded to the director recognized as an emerging board leader (3 years or less of board service) who has contributed to the success of a company.
Awarded to the director who has made an outstanding contribution to their not-for-profit board, and to the organization, with regard to board governance.
Awarded to the director with an extensive history of making outstanding contributions to not-for-profit boards, with particular energy placed on building impactful boards.
Awarded to the director who has contributed to taking the company through significant changes (i.e., early start-up, mergers, acquisitions, management changes, etc.) with a positive and productive conclusion.
Awarded to the director recognized as an emerging board leader (3 years or less of board service) who has contributed to the success of a company.
Awarded to the director who has made an outstanding contribution to his or her not-for-profit board, and to the company, with regard to board governance.
Awarded to the director who has demonstrated superior leadership over several years ensuring consistency of board discipline, maintaining ethics and principles of the board, and guiding their company(s) to higher levels of creativity and performance.
